My sister has been hoarding all of the recessive traits. My mother let me know yesterday or so that Laura, who is pregnant right now, found out that she has a negative Rhesus type. (My impending nephew is Rh+, so she get gets take RhIG shots.) She keeps doing this to me! First, she gets the blonde hair (mine is brown), then the blue eyes (again, brown) and now this ( I'm A positive). How come I get stuck with all the dominant genes?

I won't be surprised if the eyes and the hair are connected.
Brown eyed blonde haired folks? I know of none.
Light eyes and dark hair, I know of some, but it's usually location specific.

Also, you're more likely to get the dominant genes, so you shouldn't be surprised, her getting not one, but two (or perhaps more) recessive, that's the surprising thing ;)

Both of my sisters fall under this, as I believe do my nieces. Granted, it's a dirtier blonde rather than "very light yellow" blonde, but it's still distinct from brown (the other family hair color, including my own).

So, it's possible -- and if you have the right mix, repeatable.

Which is why I said I know of none, me, personally :)

They are, in fact from completely different genes. And I've known plenty of people with dominant/recessive eye/hair combinations. I've always found the dark hair/blue eyes combo particularly attractive.

[info]ptevis, I say we chalk up your large collection of dominant genes to a powerful personality. ;) (And I wouldn't complain about being "stuck" with recessive genes. There are some of those suckers you don't want, believe me.)

My sister too is a blonde and has brown eyes. So it's possible! But I'm equally as med-to-light blonde and have blue eyes, so yeah.

I thought your sister was really young - time flies!
I have blue eyes and brown hair and so does Matt. I think both kids will also (though Joseph's hair is blond right now).

Just as a cautionary note: I've seen several families where things like this happened. To a one there's been some 'interesting' (in a medical sense) recessives in all the family members. It might be worth doing a genetic screening if you ever plan to have kids.

Your dominant genes include your successfully dominant personality.

Some people just get all the fun.

Also: great name! ; ) It'll be easy to remember while I keep her health (and the nephew's) in my thoughts.
